Pendant light “Le Monde” by Carl Thore for Granhaga Metall. Sweden 1960s

Width: 35 centimeters, Height: 30 centimeters, Depth: 35 centimeters

The pendant light “Le Monde” is definitely the master piece of Carl Thores career as a light designer. A stunning golden design piece that is quite difficult to find on the market today. It consists of six aluminum rings with golden lacquer that forms a large globe. At the centre of the light, housing the light bulb, is a milky plastic tube that ensures a soft wide spread glow that exit the slits between the rings. Light also projects up and down creating a soft light down over a table as well as a soft spread in the entire room.

This light was made in silver, white and gold and in different sizes. This is the medium size golden version with a diameter of 35 cm.

Good vintage condition with some minor scratches and marks. No dents.

Standard E27 light bulb socket.

The real name of the designer known as Carl Thore was Sigurd Lindkvist, and he was born in 1916 in Åmal in Sweden’s Dalsland. After working for a lighting firm called Luko, in 1961 Lindkvist joined Granhaga Metallindustri, for whom he designed lights and was also head of sales, remaining with the company until he retired in around 1981. Lindkvist adopted the pseudonym Carl Thore for his Granhaga light designs on the spur of the moment when he was presenting the lights to a client who asked the identity of the designer. “Carl Thore,” Lindkvist blurted out, these being his two middle names.

I try to make the pictures reflect the true look, color and condition of the piece. If you have any questions or want additional photos please send a PM before buying.
