Pendant light “Medio” by Jo Hammerborg for Fog & Mørup. Denmark 1960s

Width: 32 centimeters, Height: 17 centimeters, Depth: 32 centimeters

Jo Hammerborg’s gleaming Medio pendant light, issued by Fog & Mørup in 1966, is a space-age classic with its futuristic spaceship-like geometric form and gleaming finish. At the same time it reminds us of Hammerborg’s background as a silversmith at top Danish jeweler Georg Jensen.

This particular lamp has been repoilished and its surface transformed from the original evenly brushed aluminum to a more irregular surface. The result can be seen in the detail photos. The complete electrical installation has been updated with a new E27 light bulb socket and a 2 meter long black fabric cable.

Original Fog & Mørup label still intact.

Johannes (Jo) Hammerborg grew up right outside of Randers, in a regular middle-class family. He trained as a silversmith, participated in Denmark’s resistance and struggle for freedom in 1940-45 as a saboteur, studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and worked as a silversmith at Georg Jensen. In 1957, he was hired as a chief designer at the lamp manufacturer Fog & Mørup, where he worked until 1980.

I try to make the pictures reflect the true look, color and condition of the piece. If you have any questions or want additional photos please send a PM before buying.
