Description
The legendary “Rocket” (Raketen) from Luxus was designed in 1958 at the peak of the “space age”-design period. It is always marked as “design Uno & Östen Kristiansson” but it is said to in fact have been drawn by the designer Nils-Göran Fluur. On the very first version the tubular shade was in glass but it was soon replaced by Luxus world famous acrylic plastic. The three thin wooden legs have been made in a variation of materials but the most common is oak as it was on the very first version.
This one is produced in the 1970s with legs in oak. Very good condition with almost no traces of use at all. Standard E27 light bulb socket.
“The rocket is made by the family company Luxus in Vittsjö, Skåne, (Sweden) where the brothers Uno and Östen Kristiansson achieved great success with their lamps from the start in 1951. The company manufactured lamps in a modern design in plastic, but are also known for lamps with teak or oak frames with screens. in white glass. The rocket, designed in 1958, is made of oak with a cylindrical screen in acrylic. When learning to extrude acrylic plastic into long cylinders, white cylinders became common in luxury lamps. The plastic was a new material, it gave good light scattering, was easy to process and crush resistant. The rocket is a good example of a light design from the 1950s and 1960s, both in terms of form and material, from one of the internationally important Swedish lighting companies.”
